Public Engagement

Rural Climate Dialogues

Rural areas are espcially threatened by climate change, but a variety of factors make planning for climate change in rural areas difficult. The Rural Climate Dialogues program, a joint project with the Jefferson Center and the IATP, uses deliberative public engagement to spur collective action on cliamte change. We have convened demographically and politically representative group of residents in three Greater Minnesota communities to deliberate about the local impacts of climate change and about how their community can adapt. These dialogues have helped spur action by setting clear, public goals and building support for direct involvement from community leaders and public officials.
